About Horses of a Different Color

Beginning the journey…

In the summer of 1999, the City of Chicago brought to town “Cows on Parade”. Cows on Parade was a huge success – introducing tourists and Chicago natives to a whimsical side of the city that brought delight and smiles all summer long. Now, exactly 10 years later, Main Stay Therapeutic Riding Program is proud to be hosting a similar event! Main Stay is bringing full-size carousel horses to the City of Woodstock for the entire summer of 2009. Your involvement with this unique and inspiring fundraising event is welcomed and will help make it a success!

For 22 years Main Stay has been using horses to heal humans. Now, we’re bringing a magnificent herd of carousel horses into the county to share the healing, joy and magic of the horse that our students experience every day. For centuries the horse has held this healing power and Main Stay wishes to share this power with you during the summer of 2009!

Main Stay’s Purpose…

Main Stay’s mission is to provide individualized equine related therapeutic activities to people with physical, social, developmental, and emotional disabilities. Main Stay’s horses are utilized quite differently than most equines in order to improve people’s lives. Our horses are most definitely in their own right – Horses of a Different Color.

A little background…

Artists will tantalize and inspire visitors with unique pieces of art for three months in wonderful, select locations on the Woodstock Square and other public sites in Woodstock. At the conclusion of the summer display the horses will be rounded up, cleaned and then sold at auction to the highest bidder. Proceeds from this event will be used to kick-off the planned future expansion of the Main Stay facilities and program.

This event promises to be the most exciting event of the summer – a unique, fun and inspiring venue that will attract thousands of visitors from throughout the county and Chicago-land area. You are cordially invited to be part of this magic!

How do I get involved?

Main Stay is searching for donations at several different levels and welcomes your involvement at any dollar amount you feel comfortable. We hope you’ll enjoy the benefit that comes from helping create joy and memories for thousands of children and adults over the course of this summer. Even more importantly, your gifts will be transforming lives every day for riders at Main Stay! Thank you in advance for your enthusiasm, your support and your commitment to the dream.
